I guess it was primarily due to staying compatible to other larger mod projects like dialog and head replacers, but it does show how messy correcting errors can be since other mods will rely on errors to stay as is, and the patch is expected to mold to legacy mods rather than the other way around. You'd think you'd rather do the less intrusive fix. One of the odd paths of the UMP was that with NPCs that were consistently referenced as the wrong gender and had the wrong gender name, the error wasn't that the female flag was checked/unchecked, but that all the dialog and journals were in fact incorrect yet the name still suggests otherwise? there is a ton of evidence to suggest it was a flag error - afterall, a ton of silver weapons forgot the silver flag & ignore resistance flag tons of spells still had the auto-calc flag when they clearly should've have, cells marked illegal to rest wrong, etc. like the two wraithguards equipped, being able to do Hlaalu quests while not in the house, the ruddyman shrine giving out infinite armor, etc. some like those errors as they are, even intended, ha. bugs break gameplay, while errors just stick out but don't break the game. not all errors are bugs, and don't warrant a correction.

P.P.S.: There seems to be a stubborn myth, which consists of the idea that UMP 1.6.3b is free of subjective changes, and that it went wrong when the patch was transferred to MPP.
